Concurrent Review
  • Purpose: Work with the treating physician or therapist to develop an agreed upon treatment plan based upon actual medical necessity
  • Scope:
    • Plan of care (past, present and anticipated or requested)
    • Medical necessity
    • Reasonableness
    • Causal relatedness
    • Not limited in scope for questions
  • Reviewer: Unless otherwise stipulated by the customer, the reviewer will be in active practice and disciplined-matched (MD, DO, DC) to the treatment provider
  • Inputs:
    • Medical records (no limit)
    • Peer-to-peer discussion
    • Evidence Based Medicine
    • Reviewer’s active clinical and academic experience
    • Latest medical research
    • Jurisdictional guidelines
  • Discussion: Unless otherwise stipulated by the customer, the treatment provider will be contacted and receive a copy of the report
  • Concurrent Review Follow-Up – Conducted at designated intervals after a Concurrent Review to ensure with the treatment provider that the agreed-upon recommendations have been implemented
