Concurrent Review
- Purpose: Work with the treating physician or therapist to develop an agreed upon treatment plan based upon actual medical necessity
- Scope:
- Plan of care (past, present and anticipated or requested)
- Medical necessity
- Reasonableness
- Causal relatedness
- Not limited in scope for questions
- Reviewer: Unless otherwise stipulated by the customer, the reviewer will be in active practice and disciplined-matched (MD, DO, DC) to the treatment provider
- Inputs:
- Medical records (no limit)
- Peer-to-peer discussion
- Evidence Based Medicine
- Reviewer’s active clinical and academic experience
- Latest medical research
- Jurisdictional guidelines
- Discussion: Unless otherwise stipulated by the customer, the treatment provider will be contacted and receive a copy of the report
- Concurrent Review Follow-Up – Conducted at designated intervals after a Concurrent Review to ensure with the treatment provider that the agreed-upon recommendations have been implemented
